PROJECT LEADERS
Information about our crew recruitment and application procedures for those who qualify
Service duration:
Short-term opportunities available for one month summer positions for Junior and Senior Project Leaders as well as opportunities for two week to two months on a renewable basis.
Support Package:
For Junior Project Leaders all project related expenses are covered in your support package that includes accommodation, in-country transport and meals. You will work alongside a Senior Project Leader who will have overall responsibility of the management of the Project. You must have been a previous participant on a MAD Project in any destination and have a first aid qualification as a prerequisite.
For Senior Project Leaders you must have previously served as a Junior Project Leader and still hold a current first aid qualification. Your support package also includes all project related expenses such as accommodation, in-country transport and meals, as well as international flights.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leaders are responsible for the support of all volunteer and the co-ordination of overseas projects
You must:
- Have experience of overseas volunteering and / or volunteer management
Have excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
Be a self-starter
Be entrepreneurial and enterprising
Have a genuine interest in international travel, development and volunteering
Specification of Roles
Project Research:
Spending time in new communities/countries when not with team of volunteers to identify potential areas and projects which need the help of MAD.
Formulating project proposal
Leadership:
Leadership of a team from individual volunteers up to a maximum group of 35 volunteers
Managing the team/their workload/delegation
Creating and maintaining team spirit
Training and teaching volunteers about local area and culture
First Aid support and guidance of how to keep volunteers healthy overseas
Logistics:
Assure planning, procurement and follow-up of original project plans and budgets
Organise airport pick-ups and pre-project accommodation and welcome orientations
Manage and maintain MAD’s resources
Manage and organise materials, delivery, labour and transport
Security:
Responsible for the security of volunteers
Ongoing monitoring of the security situation in the region
Maintain regular contacts with key actors in relation to security – UK and US HQs, local authorities, community etc.
Project Management and Development:
Liaise with local community – chiefs/elders/organisations to ensure that MAD are welcome in community and that they are happy with the work we are providing
Liaise with local workers, tradesman, families to ensure the project is set up, running as efficiently and as cost effectively as possible.
Budget holding of MAD project funds
Plan and monitor project activities and outputs against project budgets and proposals.
Ensure the delivery of the project according to objectives and time-frames
Reporting for daily and weekly site communications.
Ongoing evaluation and development of proposals
Marketing and communications:
Ensuring that awareness is raised about our projects through social media, our blog, photographic and video footage.
Represent and act as ambassador for MAD globally.
Administration/Finance:
Manage the program budget and ensure regular communication with Finance team on all budget matters.
Manage cash on site
Prepare timely cash requests and transfers
Filing systems and record keeping

Should you not meet the full criteria to be a Junior or Senior Project Leader then we encourage you to consider being a Team Leader at your college or workplace which would also make you eligible to later be interviewed for a Project Leader position.
